Gifts and Memorials

Monroe County library users owe a debt of gratitude to the many friends, neighbors, and businesses who support public library services and facilities by donating their volunteer time, money, books and materials to the library system and its branches.

The Library System welcomes gifts and memorial donations for any or all of the following purposes:

  • Donations of used books and videos: Please contact your closest branch and ask if they are accepting donations.  New fiction, paperbacks, and non-fiction are always welcome.  Textbooks, condensed books, magazines, musty books or those in poor condition are not accepted.
  • Cash Donations: Undesignated gifts are a much appreciated addition to library revenues that can help fund acquisitions, special programs, or major projects.  Click here for the printable form.
  • Bequests: Designating the library in your will is a wonderful way to leave a lasting gift to the community.
  • Memorial Contributions:  When a family member or close friend passes away, memorial contributions to the library can be used to purchase books for the collection or other items. Book plates acknowledging the memorial are placed in each book and the family of the deceased is notified of the donation. Click here for the printable form.
  • Support for Branch Libraries and Special Projects: Gifts can be made to support programs or projects for specific branch libraries or special projects.

Major bequests and memorial contributions have helped finance branch library construction, expansion, and renovation. The library maintains a wish list of items and projects for which donations are being sought.

Black History Month Blues Festival

The Library System's Annual Black History Month Blues Festival has been recognized by the Public and Michigan Library Associations, the Rhythm & Blues Foundation and The Blues Foundation, which awarded the project its 2009 Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Education, the blues world's most prestigious honor available to non-performers.

We are grateful to past and present members of our Blues Coalition of community co-sponsors and open to support for future programming.  Your generous donation will help enhance the ongoing success of Monroe County's Black History Month Blues Series. Contact the project director at (734) 241-5277 or use this contact form.

For more information about donations, contact the Library Business Office  at 734-241-5770 or your local branch librarian.
