What is the purpose of the ALCC?
The Arthur Lesow Community Center mission is to provide positive cultural, educational, social and recreational experiences for the entire community.
How is ALCC funded?
The center is funded by the City of Monroe , Monroe County and United Way. Some programs are funded by grants and donations.
What is ALCC's history?
The ALCC was started in the early 1940's through the initiative of Mr. Arthur Lesow and other community leaders to provide a place for all types of persons to learn to cooperate. The first structure was the old Boy's Club on Eastchester that was started under the WPA. The present facility was built with HUD funds in l968. The building is owned by the City of Monroe.
Who can use the ALCC?
Anyone that walks in and follows the established rules. Most activities are free or have only a small charge. Groups can use a meeting room and teams use the gym. Groups can have a dinner. There is a charge for groups to use the facility.
Who operates the ALCC?
ALCC is in a building that is owned by the City of Monroe but it is operated by a private 501(c)(3) non profit corporation. It has a nine member board of directors that sets policy. |
