Located in downtown Monroe, the Monroe County Historical Museum holds a significant Custer collection as well as many local sites of interest to Custer historians.
A major component of the Library's Custer collection was obtained by Monroe's resident Custer historian, the late Dr. Lawrence A. Frost, in 1977; and continues to grow steadily through additional acquisitions. The collection houses numerous books on the Civil War, Indians, and the Custer story; but also maintains a wide variety of maps, photographs, video tapes, slides, sound recordings, paintings, and an extensive subject/vertical file.
The Monroe County Library System is committed to the continuation of the highest level of Custer scholarship. Donations and contributions to this public resource in the form of materials, bequests and contributions are welcome, with acknowledgment and tax letters cordially supplied.
