Bygones of Monroe:
"Borax Bill," the driver of the famous Death Valley twenty-mile mule team, who is touring the country, will be in Monroe on Saturday and give free exhibitions of his skill. He formerly drove this team into the Death Valley for borax, going a distance of 162 miles up hill and down dale, hauling twelve-ton loads of the commodity, until railways deprived him of his occupation. When it is borne in mind that the average freight car carries about twenty tons over level rails, the feat of "Borax Bill" is a marvellous one.
