Bygones of Monroe:
Capt. Spaulding
In the lists of killed and wounded at the late battle, we find the name of Capt. George Spaulding of the 4th Michigan. Capt. Spaulding entered the regiment as a non-commissioned officer, and by his merit as a soldier rose to the rank of Captain. He is spoken of in the report as a brave and gallant officer, a testimonial in which this entire community will concur.
It is quite possible, that more of the Monroe boys in the gallant Fourth have been killed or wounded, as Porter’s division was in the midst of the fight, though we as yet see the names of none who belonged to Co. A.
