Bygones of Monroe:

(Monroe Commercial, February 24, 1867, p3c3)

The Monroe Piers which have been for some years badly dilapidated, and for the repairing of which an appropriation was made at the last session of Congress, are being thoroughly repaired this winter. Our townsman, J.M. Sterling, has the contract for furnishing the timber and materials, and a gentleman from Detroit is doing the work. A large quantity of timber has been delivered, and a gang of men are engaged in the labor. The piers will be thoroughly and substantially repaired.
