Bygones of Monroe:
A Soldier In Luck
We learn by a private letter lately received from Searles C. Edwards, of the 15th Michigan Regiment that on the 15th of April, Levi French, a private of Capt. Strong’s Company who belongs in the town of Milan, while walking near the Tennessee River, on ground which had been recently occupied by the rebels, picked up a package which on examination was found to contain $700 in gold. That is what we call quite a “wind-fall” for a soldier.
S.C. Edwards who writes the letter, has command of the company, which is fast improving in health.
