U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)
Passport Information
On June 1, 2009, the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will go into effect. This new rule is for all sea or land ports of entry into the U.S. and will affect both Americans, and foreign nationals.
This means that U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, by land or sea, will be required to present one of the following documents in order to regain entry into the United States:
- U.S. Passport
- U.S. Passport Card
- Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)
- Trusted Traveler Program Card (NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST)
