Going Green

Spring means Green

The grass is turning green, and the trees are filling with leaves. Now is the time to think about keeping the environment green. The information provided below will include lots of good ideas for ways to Go Green.

LOCAL

Healthy Monroe Solid Waste Program encourages recycling and proper disposal of household, yard, and electronic waste. The 2016 recycling and hazardous waste schedule has been posted. Check the website for dates and times of recycling opportunities. They also sponsor a site on My Ecoville. Check it out for tips on business and residential recycling and other ways to cooperate in green ventures.

STATE

Environment Michigan advocates for protection of the state’s environment, whether it is air, land, or water quality. Read about the issues and take action today!

MI DNR green initiatives shows how the state parks and harbors are handling renewable energy practices to save energy and the environment. The site includes links to other Michigan agency initiatives being followed for the same purpose.

Michigan green jobs initiative promotes green industries and wants to make sure skilled workers are available to work in these green areas

COUNTRY & BEYOND

Natural Resources Defense Counsel (NRDC) website offers information on green living in the form of press releases, reports and links to NRDC activism in a variety of areas. A non-profit organization, they focus on ensuring the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.

Learn about Waste, a website put out by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, promotes green living by educating the public about the effects of household and industrial waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous.

The Go Green Initiative starts at the school level by providing the tools and training they need to create a “culture of conservation” within their community, with goals to conserve and protect natural resources for future generations, and to protect human health through environmental stewardship.

Treehugger strives to be a one-stop shop for Green news, solutions, and product information. They publish a blog, newsletters, and maintain Twitter and Facebook pages.

Why is this important? Learn about the effect toxins can have on humans and on the environment as a whole. The Safer States website offers explanations about all of this and what states are doing to correct the problem.
