The River Raisin Review is a literary journal produced by the Monroe County Library System featuring the writing submissions of Monroe County patrons and residents

Submission Guidelines
What kind of work is the River Raisin Review looking for?
The River Raisin Review considers original works including poetry and short stories of any genre, from writers ages 16 and up. Short stories must be under 5,000 words; poetry is limited to three pages per poem. Explicit content should be kept at a minimum, but ultimately appropriateness will be determined by the editors. Works submitted must be fully edited and ready to be to published. Please note that while we assure you every piece is read and reviewed carefully, we are not able to provide any criticism.

Does the River Raisin Review accept previously published material?
No, we cannot consider anything that has been previously published or accepted for publication, anywhere, in any form. Work that has appeared online is considered to have been previously published and should not be submitted.

Does the River Raisin Review pay?
We are unable to offer compensation. However, if you are chosen for publication you will receive one contributor’s copy of the issue in which you appear.

How do I submit my work to the River Raisin Review?

What file types can I submit?
The River Raisin Review will accept the following files:

  • Word (.doc/.docx)
  • Pages (.pages)
  • Scrivener (.scriv)
  • Rich Text (.rtf)

Short stories should be submitted in a single file each, and include a cover page containing the writer’s contact information. Poems should be submitted in a single file, with poems separated by titles or page breaks. It should also contain a cover page with contact information. Please do not include any graphics (photos, clipart, etc.) in your submission.

How soon can I expect to hear about my submission?
At the very latest, you should hear from us one week before the issue release date. We do our best to respond in a timely manner, but please keep in mind the response time will vary greatly depending on the volume of submissions.

Does the River Raisin Review accept paper submissions?
No, we do not. All submission must be made via the website using our online form.
