We all enjoy Rudolph, Frosty, and the Charlie Brown specials around the holidays, but how about getting in the spirit by picking up a holiday book that appeals to adults? As for classics, my favorite holiday story is Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory followed closely by the more somber Hans Christiaan Anderson's The Little Match Girl.
And, one you may not know, Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales.
And, of course, we can’t forget Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. There are a couple of books out about the circumstances under which Dickens wrote his bestselling tale. The movie about Dickens in theaters now is based on Les Standiford’s The man who invented Christmas : how Charles Dickens's "A Christmas carol" rescued his career and revived our holiday spirits and if you enjoy fiction more, there is Mr. Dickens and his carol by Samantha Silva.
If you like a more modern tale, try Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak, a story about a family forced to spend a week together at the holidays
because of quarantine. Publisher’s Weekly says it’s, “…smart, delightfully funny…” Do you enjoy a good murder mystery? Try
P.D. James, The Mistletoe Murder and other stories, a collection of previously unpublished stories including two featuring the author’s iconic detective Adam Dalgliesh. Season’s Readings!
